Our Levels
Pre Ballet
Leotard Color: Lilac
Description: For children turning age 5 by October 15th. This class meets once per week for forty-five minutes. These students learn the basic ballet positions and etiquette, while enjoying classical music, pantomime, and make believe.
Maximum class size: 8 students
Ballet I
Leotard Color: Powder Blue
Description: For children ages 6, 7 and 8 with Pre-ballet or no prior experience. This class meets once per week for one hour. These students begin to experience traditionally constructed classes with barre and center work, as well as the technique and discipline of ballet.
Maximum class size: 10 students
Ballet II
Leotard Color: Navy Blue
Description: For students ages 7, 8 and 9 who have completed Ballet I, or students ages 10 and above with no previous training. This class meets once or twice per week for one hour. Students expand their understanding of basic ballet technique and continue to develop a foundation for strength and proper alignment.
Maximum class size: 12 students
*Our older beginner students are placed in the Friday Ballet II Class.
Ballet III
Leotard Color: Ballet Pink
Description: For intermediate students by invitation or audition only. This class meets twice per week for one hour and fifteen minutes. These students are introduced to more intricate steps and combinations, including jump and turn sequences, that provide a foundation for intermediate ballet.
Ballet IV
Leotard Color: White
Description: For intermediate students by invitation or audition only. This class meets twice per week for one hour and fifteen minutes. These students refine their technical skills while developing artistry, and are offered opportunities to display leadership when combined with Ballet III.
Level A1
Leotard Color: Burgundy
Description: For intermediate/advanced students by invitation or audition only. This class meets three times per week for an hour and a half. It is intended for first-year or second-year Level A students who are not yet en pointe.
Level A is the start of our upper school. Students earn their placement in the upper school through dedication, grace and mindfulness. Those who have achieved proper foot alignment, ankle strength and mastery of fundamental technique may be invited to dance en pointe at the end of the school year.
Level A2
Leotard Color: Burgundy
Description: For intermediate/advanced students by invitation or audition only. This class meets three times per week for an hour and a half plus a forty-five minute pointe class. It is intended for second-year or third-year Level A students who have been invited to dance en pointe. Students are encouraged to explore artistry and musicality, and experience the challenge and well-earned joy of dancing en pointe.
Level B
Leotard Color: Black
Description: This class is for advanced students who are well-accomplished in ballet technique including pointe work. By invitation or audition only. Students in this level should take class at least four days per week, but additional classes are encouraged and incur no additional cost!
This level will have guest teachers from the New York City Ballet, occasional lectures/workshops and will go on one field-trip to see a professional ballet company perform.
*Level B students may take Level A classes en pointe.
Level C
Leotard Color: Any Color
Description: Our most advanced students. By invitation of the Director only. Students are expected to display leadership, dedication and inspire the younger students. Students in this level should take class at least four days per week, but additional classes are encouraged and incur no additional cost!
This level will have guest teachers from the New York City Ballet, occasional lectures/workshops and will go on one field-trip per year to see a professional ballet company perform.
*Level C dancers may be asked to wear pointe shoes for technique classes.
